2021 was not a productive year for the blog, after so many years of writing I needed a break to be honest. I also decided that 2021 is the year my mental health ranks a bit, so I made a few changes here and there.
However, we are now in 2022 and I want to get a fresh start on this blogging stuff again. So, expect a little more activity (don’t expect one activity per week!)
I’d love to hear what you’d like to see more of going forward though, let me know in the comments or on Twitter (dev raj)
As always, below you’ll find a summary of the year’s blogs. Hope you enjoy and see you all soon 🙂
Posted on December 29, 2021 So, Christmas is over and we are now in that no man lands between Christmas and New Years. No one knows what day it is, what they should do or what their next meal might consist of – but know that it’s in the freezer and it’s a bit sized. Next week or…More…

Posted on December 14, 2021 A million years ago (and also 2013) I spoke at my first big conference – Gamification World Congress ’13. I chose to talk about a potential framework for a likable career path, using a game board, ongoing feedback loops etc. https://www.gamified.uk/2013/10/21/career-2-0-gwc-talk/ It was a decent talk and the concept, if you say…more…

Posted on November 22, 2021 So, in my last post, I set the cat among the pigeons a bit by introducing my new definition of manipulation. Well, the conversations that followed were great 🙂 That’s one of the reasons I did, to start the conversation again – to get people to walk away from work as usual…more…

Posted on November 15, 2021 I was wrong … in fact for many years. So, here I am again, talking about tariffs. I’ve been here before, but I usually try to push the idea of a more academic and “correct” definition of manipulation. However, I’ve realized over the years that this is not helpful for most people! … More …

Posted on November 4, 2021 Hazar. A three letter word you won’t hear me mention often when discussing gamification! why? Well, having fun is really personal. What you find interesting, I may not. Posted on October 13, 2021 Gamification is a little over 10 years old, but has he changed much since his wild childhood days? I remember when I first started participating in 2011, it was a time to get excited, learn and play. There were meetups, webinars, conferences, knowledge sharing and all kinds. It was liberal, and free…More…

Posted on September 6, 2021 I recently saw a news article saying that certain parts of America were testing a stimulus program to try to encourage more people to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The idea was that individuals could earn $100 through vaccination. If you’ve ever read any of my work, you’ll probably know that I’m not…More…

Posted on August 4, 2021 The past year or so has been shorts to say the least. Personally it has taken a toll on my already questionable mental health at times! However, one light has been shining bright since the latter stages of 2020 – Mischief Movie Night In from Mischief Theatre. The Mischief Theater is a collection of…More…

Posted on June 30, 2021 It’s been a long time since I’ve written about the types of HEXAD users, but the world doesn’t stand idly by, and I still see them pop up in academic papers – which is amazing, so I thought it was time to say a few words about the things that have been repeated over and over again. Come on! You have inspired me…More…

Posted on May 26, 2021 When we design anything, be it user experiences, gaming experiences, or even just Lego buildings – we are emotionally involved in what we do. We invest ourselves in the process and its results. For this reason, it can be very difficult for us to accept someone who tells us that they are thinking…More…

Posted on April 18, 2021 1. Don’t believe everything you see or read. Social media does not have a filter, so anyone can post almost anything and they don’t always post the truth. From politicians to social figures, what is concealed is often modified in some respects whether it is the facts or the flawless texture of the models’ skin. Pay attention to … more …

Posted on April 9, 2021 Progress bars during lockdown and thanks to our new dog, I’ve been playing a lot of Xbox early in the morning. I try to play games when I can, but until recently I didn’t have the time to invest much of my life in them. But I’ve always insisted on it to understand what makes games…More…

Posted on February 22, 2021 Playful or fun design involves designing products or experiences through the lens of play. How do you make people feel safe to explore, encourage experimentation, and even add some fun? Posted on February 9, 2021 In gamification, you will hear a lot about Flow. I’ve talked about it myself many times. Posted on January 5, 2021 Well, Happy New Year everyone. I wanted to start 2021 by talking about an incredibly satisfying gaming experience I had over Christmas. Play Animal Farm on my phone. For those who don’t know, Animal Farm is a very stark book written by George Orwell in the 1940s and uses the power struggle between farm animals…more…
